There are six types of communication that create supportive and defensive relational climates.-when we describe behaviors and others; when we judge or evaluate others
-communicate openness to a variety of points of view, use language that indicates there is only one way to view a situation i.e. my way or the highway
-our communication feels open, honest, and spontaneous; our communication feels manipulative, premeditated, and strategic
- use communication to find ways of satisfying everyone involved in the interaction; we try to control, triumph over, or manipulate others, what they think, and what they do
-demonstrate empathy or care about the other person; act in a neutral, detached, or indifferent way
- use communication to indicate that all parties are equal; use communication to indicate that one person is superior to another
